To many of our closest and loyal supporters,

I am not personalizing this note, because it’s not directed to any one person in particular, but rather a wide range of loyal and supportive friends that can easily be considered some of our closest.

Recently, we have all read about a number of very prominent Division I colleges and universities that have found themselves addressing difficult times with NCAA investigations specific to issues of compliance, judgment, and integrity. The Navy family does not want to join that company.

I am reminding many at this time to help our alumni and friends to always remain highly aware of the importance of complying with any rule or regulation that guides the Naval Academy Athletic Association as a Division I intercollegiate athletics program. Understanding NCAA rules is critical to full compliance. However, personal good judgment and common sense are often all that may be needed to avoid a violation crisis. Please use logical thinking in dealing with our coaches and student-athletes regarding a friendship, courtesy, or relationship to any degree. Your consistent guideline should always be to avoid extending any extra benefits to our student-athletes not normally afforded the Brigade at large. When in doubt, contact us to help you think it through. Our compliance office number is 410-293-8936.

Our coaches and student-athletes understand the NCAA rules, so please do not put them in an awkward or uncomfortable situation by creating any environment that could border on a compromising position. We are all one team and the well earned reputation of our great Academy should never be threatened … by anyone … for any reason.

Thanks in advance for your support in making the right decisions and help us, help others, do the same.

Best wishes and Expect to Win!

Chet Gladchuk
Director of Athletics
