'64's A & SP Scholarship Program

Classmates:

It is my pleasure to convey the news that the first recipient of our Class
A & SP Scholarship program, 50th Class Gift Project, has been selected by the
USNA Foundation as the "Naval Academy Foundation's Class of 1964 Honor
Scholar".

Austin N. Branch, a Navy junior, has successfully completed a year of
academic preparation to enter the Naval Academy at Blair Academy in
Blairstown N.J. He will enter the Academy with the class of 2015 later this
month. Austin will be recognized as the first recipient of the Class of 1964
scholarship at a reception honoring all foundation graduates on June 29 in
Annapolis. He will take the oath of office as a midshipman with his
classmates on "I" Day, June 30th.

You may recall that all foundation scholarships are need based. This, as the
majority are, is a partial scholarship in the amount of $10,700. It is
matched by increased funds from the recipient's family and the Blair Academy
to totally fund the cost of a year's education. As the result of the
success of our Class Gift fundraising program, future Class of 1964
scholarships are expected to be awarded annually to Foundation selectees,
after they have successfully completed their Foundation year. Please refer
to our Class website, Class Gift MOU, A&SP attachment to obtain a full
description of our 1964 scholarship program.

Please see the attached letter from Capt. Ed Wallace, executive director
notifying the recipient of his designation.

Scott: Please post notice of this on our website, under Class Projects, 50th
Class Gift program.

Roland: Please announce this event in your next Shipmate article. I plan to
get a picture of the recipient receiving congratulations from Tom Lynch to
you for the article.

Grant: Please announce this award in the next newsletter.

I plan to attend the reception for all Foundation students entering the
Academy with the class of 2015 on June 29. On behalf of the Class, I will
congratulate Austin as our first of many scholarship recipients!

Very best regards,
Bill
